Poster Analysis

This is a poster for the film 'The Blind Side'.
There are lots of semiotics you can pull out from it. The man you see is a huge figure that suggests he could be an intimidating person. You also see the woman as a much smaller figure, suggesting she could be looked down on her, treating her as a less important person. Juxtaposing to the previous suggestion her hand is round back. This could suggest that she is a mother figure for him. As he is black and she is white it suggests two things. Firstly linking into her being a mother figure, because of the shear size of him and colour he could be adopted. Secondly it could suggest that there will be racism or ethnic issues that are tackled in this film. Another thing you can see is the helmet he is holding. This could suggest how he is a shy character and wants his identity to be covered up.

  1. James, is this a good film? I'm curious..
Despite it looking slightly cheesy, you have picked some GREAT connotations from this poster - exactly the depth of analysis I'm looking for. You could still go further - explore colour, typography, etc.

Target: Try to use as much media terminology as possible, to practice your academic style.
