Matrix
Camera (FAM)
At the beginning of the scene all you see is a close up of a computer screen which had green text being written on it. For this there was no change of angle of movement needed to be performed by the camera. However when the writing disappeared you then got a vary of different frames after another.Firstly you see the man with a gun that involved a close up of his face and the gun itself, with the camera coming from a low angle tilting upwards.Following on from that there is an over shoulder shot of the man as he walks down through the corridor and also when they find the woman sitting by the computer at the end of the scene. Both of these shots involve the camera panning left and right to follow the character and get the right angle for the shot.
Mise En Scene
Costume- The costumes in the opening sequence are based on a police basis. This is because the in the opening scene you see around 4 different policemen about to break into the room where the woman on the computer sits. The woman who is on the computer is dressed in all black. This represents the mystery, and 'bad nature' of this character.
Lighting- Right from the start of the scene there was dark lighting. When the camera pans to the policemen, the lighting is dark and dull. This gives a eerie atmosphere and suggests to you the film isn't going to be a comedy, its more likely going to be a thriller, horror or action.
Actors- There are 4 men actors that are all policemen in the opening scene, however the person who what seems to be the 'baddie' is the woman sitting on the computer dressed in black. This goes against the typical stereotype of 'baddies' being big thuggish men.
Make Up- In the policemen there was no clear makeup. However with the woman her face was incredible pale, with black mascara. The contrast on her clothes and makeup around her eyes being black and her face being white gives a 'gothic', creepy look.
Props- There are quite a few props you see in the opening scene, firstly you have the computer writing the messages and text in the green back ground, and then you see this later on when the police rush into room 303 to get the woman. As the computer has made two appearances already it could possibly suggest it has a part to play in the film. As well as the computer you have the guns that the policemen have. This could suggest that the woman is a major, dangerous criminal so guns were needed for protection.
Setting- The setting seems to be in some underground secret bunker, or hideout. I say this because it directly links in with the lighting being dull and eerie. However it is unlikely that an underground bunker or hideout would have room 303, so you cant really tell at the moment. As a result of not knowing you are asking yourself lots of enigma codes.
Sound- At the very start of the opening scene, when there the computer writing, with the font in green, you heard two people talking to each other. As you heard this but didn't see it, they used the effect of 'off screen' sound here. Also at the start there was the soundtrack, as the writing started to appear on the screen. There is the effect of non-diegetic sound as the policemen started to sneak through the tunnel. Finally when the policemen break through into the room diegetic sound is used.
Effects- The start of the film the writing was appearing and then wiping clear after a few seconds, then there was numbers that got involved. Here the numbers flicked over really quickly, then finally were dissolved out.
